Since 2006, Carl Rosa has inspired thousands of students across the United States through his passion for sushi, Japanese culture, and culinary education. As the founder of ExploreSushi.com and the Sushi Club of Houston, he has devoted his career to making sushi approachable, enjoyable, and memorable by teaching hundreds of hands-on Sushi 101 classes for beginners, private groups, corporate events, and special occasions. Beyond the classroom, Carl regularly leads culinary tours throughout Japan, continually deepening his knowledge of the country's rich culinary traditions while building lasting relationships with sushi chefs, sake experts, and local artisans. In November 2025, he celebrated his 100th flight to and from Japan—a milestone reflecting his enduring connection to the country and its culture. Known for his engaging teaching style, attention to detail, and genuine enthusiasm, Carl creates memorable experiences that blend education, entertainment, and an authentic appreciation for Japanese cuisine. Outside of teaching, Carl has been married to his wife, Sonya, for more than 30 years and enjoys listening to classical music—particularly the works of Beethoven—as well as studying the Japanese philosophies of Kaizen and Ikigai, principles that continue to shape both his personal life and professional journey.
